Pure Enjoyment

The Great Outdoors has been calling me more than usual lately. As soon as the morning mist gives way to bright sunshine this is when all I want to do is put on my hat and sunglasses, grab a pick from my Summer Reads pile, pour myself a glass of iced tea, then head out our back door. There an Adirondack chair awaits me. Once I park myself it in and open my book, a new adventure begins!

From my journal: June 21, 1994, Rolling Hills Estates, California

“Yay for today…Sunny summer solstice! Jumpin’ Jupiter Summer’s here!”

Yes, summer is here and yes, I really wrote that in my journal all those years ago!  Sometimes I even make myself laugh. Anyway, in honor of it’s arrival, I am going to do just that and get outside. I will forgo writing a formal blog post this week, but I am offering up a few quotes to get you in spirit of the season, that is, if you’re not already there. Enjoy!

“‘Cause a little bit of summer is what the whole year is all about.” –John Mayer

“And at the end of the day, your feet should be dirty, your hair messy and your eyes sparkling.” –Shanti

“If you’re not barefoot, then you’re overdressed.” –Unknown

“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time.” —John Lubbock

“Summer is a period of luxurious growth. To be in harmony with the atmosphere of summer, awaken early in the morning and reach to the sun for nourishment to flourish as the gardens do. Work, play, travel, be joyful, and grow into selfless service. The bounty of the outside world enters and enlivens us.” – Paul Pitchford

“A man says a lot of things in summer he doesn’t mean in winter.” – Patricia Briggs

“Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August.” —Jenny Han, The Summer I Turned Pretty

Wishing you a summer of relaxed days, lazy evenings, and pure enjoyment every minute in between!
