From my journal: March 23, 2023, Newbury Park, California
“Beautiful hike this morning…the fog lifted as we headed down Sycamore Canyon. We could hear and see the river of rushing water flowing under the bridge that is normally dry…and the hills are so green now…”
We’ve had quite a spell of rain this past month and even a tornado warning in our area last week! Very unusual weather for sure. Although spring officially sprung on the 20th we have been inundated with a lot of cold hard rain, in fact, three times as much as usual, and with cloudy dark skies that have seemed to last forever, it hasn’t felt like our beloved season actually arrived. And with temperatures ten degrees lower than we’re used to, it’s no wonder I nearly missed the start of spring which I always welcome with a smile.

Each season brings with it the promise of good things to come. Symbolizing new life, rebirth, and joy, spring offers a palette of pastoral pastels just beyond our door. There’s a cool freshness to the air. Blades of green grass emerge from the muddy earth, yellow daffodils and purple crocus start to bloom, and wrens and robins sweetly sing their songs. Days start to stretch out before us, and nights begin to pass faster. It’s now that I anticipate being outdoors more often to enjoy the soft sunshine and gentle breezes on long leisurely walks. It’s now I check our raised veggie beds of peas, beets, and radishes to see what’s ripe and ready to pick. And it’s now with Passover and Easter on their way, many of us will get ready to gather around tables to partake in new and old traditions.

While we are beginning to shake off winter and bid it farewell, I’d like to share some inspiring words, thoughts, and sayings that highlight what’s so special about this time of year. A fun way to ring in spring! Enjoy!
